This exhibition in the lunchroom of Museum Het Schip showcases the work of artist Vincent van Oss. Van Oss re-imagines the Amsterdam School style by blending historical objects and ideas with contemporary concepts, creating new images and interpretations. The display aims to revitalize the impact of this distinct artistic movement.
From July 9 to August 25, 2024, Museum Het Schip's lunchroom will host 'Lunchroomexpositie Vincent van Oss.' Vincent van Oss, an Amsterdam-based artist, explores the Amsterdam School, an Expressionist style characterized by flowing movements, geometric patterns, and references to flora and fauna. He posits that working from the Amsterdam School, though often overlooked in favor of De Stijl and Nieuwe Zakelijkheid, can yield compelling artistic results.
Van Oss's installations and photographs seek to integrate this historical movement into contemporary art by combining objects and ideas from both periods. This approach leads to new images and interpretations, aiming to breathe new life into the 'vibration' that this style once created. For example, he translates Hildo Krop and Piet Kramer's statue of a pipe-playing Faun into a panpipe bridge, and Krop's sculpture of a girl between a horse's legs into a replica of a Krop worker with an oversized rocking horse. Vincent van Oss studied at the St Joost Academy and has exhibited previously, including at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. All displayed works are available for purchase directly through the artist.
