This exhibition showcases the work of Annemarie van Haeringen, a celebrated Dutch illustrator known for her captivating animal and fairy-tale figures. Visitors can explore original artworks, her artistic process, and thematic explorations of her distinctive style.
From June 3 to October 9, the Allard Pierson Museum presents 'Op papier durf ik alles – tekeningen van Annemarie van Haeringen,' a focused exhibition celebrating one of the Netherlands' most awarded illustrators. Annemarie van Haeringen, known for her fantastical animal figures and fairy-tale characters, will have a selection of her original artworks on display. The exhibition delves into her artistic process, from storyboards and sketchbooks to the final pieces created with watercolor, acrylics, ecoline, and Indian ink. Van Haeringen, who has been drawing since childhood and often features animals like elephants and dragons in her work, finds absolute freedom in her illustration, stating, 'On paper I dare everything and can do anything, even dance...'.
The exhibition is structured around eleven recurring themes in Van Haeringen's illustrations, such as 'contrast,' 'wet on wet,' 'worlds,' and 'tension.' These themes allow visitors to follow the creative process and character development within her work. Children visiting the exhibition can participate by searching for hidden elephant drawings, with a special booklet titled 'Olifantastisch!' available at the desk.
