Groeningemuseum Masterpieces and New Contemporary Art Exhibitions Head to BRUSK in Bruges
While the Groeningemuseum prepares for upcoming renovations, its historic collection and several ambitious new art initiatives will temporarily find a home at the nearby BRUSK art venue. This autumn, the space begins a transition into a dynamic hub where heritage and contemporary themes reinforce one another.
Experiencing the Groeninge Collection in a New Light
From March 12, 2027, to June 30, 2031 (with the end date subject to change), the most celebrated pieces of the Groeninge Collection will be showcased in the modern halls of BRUSK.
Titled The Art of Looking, this four-year exhibition liberates these world-renowned Flemish masterpieces from their traditional gallery setting. The presentation is designed to encourage visitors to slow down and find personal meaning in the historic works, making it an engaging experience whether you are discovering these paintings for the first time or returning as a longtime admirer.
Water, Art, and Fashion Collide in "High Tide"
Ahead of the collection move, visitors can experience a sensory journey exploring the sea and the power of water. Running from October 30, 2026, to March 14, 2027, the upcoming exhibition High Tide represents the first large-scale dialogue between contemporary fashion and visual art in Bruges.
Conceived by fashion curator Karen Van Godtsenhoven, the exhibition explores how deeply water is connected to human emotions, dreams, and environmental challenges. Visitors will find immersive soundscapes, video works, and striking fashion designs from both emerging and world-famous names. The marine theme is especially fitting for Bruges, a historic city whose identity has been shaped by the tides of the North Sea for centuries.
BRUSK as a Creative Hub for the 2027 Bruges Triennial
Looking further ahead, BRUSK will play a central role in the fifth edition of the Bruges Triennial, scheduled to run from April 24 to September 5, 2027.
Under the theme After Birth – Structures of Togetherness, the festival will see international artists and architects staging installations throughout the historic city center to foster encounter and exchange. As part of this city-wide dialogue, BRUSK will host a dedicated triennial installation that explores shared spaces and the social structures that connect us as living beings.
