Journey into 'Altered States of Mind' at the Hash Marihuana Hemp Museum in Barcelona
The Hash Marihuana Hemp Museum in Barcelona is currently hosting a unique temporary exhibition titled “Altered States of Mind.” Developed in collaboration with the Cryptshow Festival, this exhibit invites visitors to explore various perceptions of consciousness through a curated collection of illustrative works.
An Exploration of Consciousness and Art
The exhibition presents an artistic journey through different disturbed states of consciousness, touching on themes such as altered perceptions of space and time, shifts in thought processes, heightened sensitivities, and even uncontrolled laughter. While cannabis can induce some of these effects, the exhibit broadens the scope to reflect how altered states of mind manifest in an increasingly complex modern society, extending beyond traditional associations. From psychedelic experiences often linked to hippie culture to profound Lovecraftian allegories, the artworks delve into a wide spectrum of psychological and emotional landscapes.
Key Artists and Collaborators
"Altered States of Mind" features illustrations from more than a dozen artists. Among the highlights are three original pieces by the renowned artist Rubén Pellejero, taken from his latest work, "El largo y tortuoso camino." Other notable contributors include Xavi Reñé, Juan Rubí, and Toni Benages i Gallard, known for illustrating "Les extraordinàries aventures de Francesc Pujols." The full roster of participating artists includes Mata Anaïs, José Miguel Álvarez, David Jordán, Samuel Delgado, Myriam Melero, Riccardo Micol, and Daniel Torrado.
This exhibition is presented by Cryptshow Festival, an annual event based in Badalona, Spain. For over a decade, the festival has celebrated the fantasy and horror genres across various disciplines, with a strong focus on cinema, literature – including a literary contest with publishing house Males Herbes – and the art of illustration and comics.
