Electrische Museumtramlijn Amsterdam Celebrates 50 Years with Jubilee Events
The Electrische Museumtramlijn Amsterdam is marking its 50th anniversary with a special jubilee weekend packed with activities for visitors in late September. This celebration of Amsterdam's public transport heritage will feature free tram rides, historic vehicles, and a range of events for all ages.
Leading up to the main event, a unique tram, the 2125, has been traversing the city. This specially decorated tram showcases five different house styles used by the GVB over the past 125 years. The 2125, a gift from PPP Nederland and Rail Magazine, will be in service until October 5th, signaling the museum tramline's significant milestone.
Free Historic Tram Rides in Amsterdam
On Saturday, September 27th, the celebration kicks off with a unique timetable on Line 16, offering free rides on various historic museum trams. Visitors can hop on and off at designated stops along the route, which includes iconic locations such as Haarlemmermeerstation, Museumplein, Muntplein, Rokin, and Centraal Station. The lineup of expected trams includes several notable models, offering a chance to experience Amsterdam's past transport firsthand.
Specific trams anticipated to be in service for these free journeys include 144+663, 794, 465+731, 820, 1236+748, 586, 307+792, 602, 401+946, 909+987, the Rr3, the 919, and the MACK-75. Detailed schedules for Lines 9, 10, 11, 23, and 26 will be available for those planning their routes.
A Weekend of Festivities and Special Routes
The festivities continue on Sunday, September 28th, with a full day of tram-related activities designed for both children and adults. Special buses from various organizations will also be on site, enhancing the experience. The day's events are scheduled to run from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, concluding with a celebratory tram parade returning to the Remise Lekstraat.
Sunday's routes are designed as scenic round trips, beginning and ending at Haarlemmermeerstation, with no intermediate stops for boarding or alighting. These circular journeys will cover different parts of Amsterdam, showcasing the city from a unique perspective. Routes include:
- Line 9: Through Koninginneweg, Leidseplein, Frederiksplein, Weteringcircuit, and Concertgebouw.
- Line 10: Via Concertgebouw, Weteringcircuit, and Beethovenstraat.
- Line 11: Passing Beethovenstraat, Leidseplein, and Koninginneweg.
- Line 23 (Bus): A tour through Buitenveldert, including Buitenveldertselaan, Europaboulevard, and De Boelelaan.
- Line 26 (Bus): Covering Concertgebouw, Van Baerlestraat, and Roelof Hartplein.
Photographers will find opportunities at turning points like Olympiaweg and Surinameplein. Many of the historic trams seen on Saturday, including the 2125 and the Mack-75, are also expected to be part of Sunday's display.
