Street Art Icon Lady Aiko Unveils New Work for 'Women in Street Art' Exhibition at STRAAT Museum, Amsterdam
The STRAAT Museum in Amsterdam is set to highlight female talent in the street art world with its "Women in Street Art" exhibition. A significant addition to this showcase is a new artwork by the internationally acclaimed street artist Lady Aiko, created live on-site, marking her first time producing museum work in the Netherlands.
Celebrating Female Voices in Street Art at STRAAT
This exhibition, running from February 22 to May 28, 2023, aims to shine a spotlight on influential women in street art. Lady Aiko, a Tokyo/NYC-based artist born in 1975, is renowned for her distinctive style, which merges Japanese woodblock printing influences with contemporary themes of romance, sexuality, and identity. Her work often advocates for women and girls, addressing gender inequality with a powerful yet loving visual language. Throughout her career, Aiko has collaborated with notable artists like Takashi Murakami and Banksy, and her pieces have been featured in major institutions globally, including MACRO Future Rome and the Brooklyn Museum in New York.
Beyond Lady Aiko, the "Women in Street Art" collection will also feature new contributions from Dutch graffiti icon Mick La Rock and Nina Valkhoff, representing a younger generation of artists known for integrating ecological and plant motifs into her work. Visitors can also see pieces by other impactful female street artists already in the STRAAT collection, such as George Rose, Adele Renault, Milu Correch, Gleo, Hera from Herakut, and Judith de Leeuw.

Following this, Nina Valkhoff is also scheduled to create a new artwork on-site during March and April. This dynamic approach allows the museum's collection to evolve continuously, providing an engaging experience for those interested in the artistic process.
