Discover "Asia, from the heart": An Asian Art Exhibition at Geelvinck Pianola Museum

This exhibition, 'Asia, from the heart', at the Geelvinck Pianola Museum features art objects from the private collections of members of the Society of Friends of Asian Art (VVAK) to celebrate its 90-year jubilee. It showcases art from China, Mongolia, and Himalayan regions, highlighting diverse pieces from ancient pottery to modern vases, animal figures, porcelain, and gilded bronzes.

To commemorate the 90-year jubilee of the Society of Friends of Asian Art (VVAK), the Museum Geelvinck Hinlopen Huis presents a series of exhibitions titled 'Asia, from the heart'. This initial exhibition delves into art from China, Mongolia, and the Himalayan regions, featuring a rich array of objects from private collections. Visitors can expect to encounter Neolithic pottery, prehistoric jades, and a vase with Mao’s portrait, alongside striking animal figures from the Mongolian-Siberian Ordos culture, exquisite porcelain, and serene gilded bronzes from Tibet. Rare Chinese carpets also adorn the exhibition space, illustrating the fruitful interrelationship between these cultures. The exhibition series offers a rare glimpse into private Asian art collections, often kept hidden from public view. The VVAK has a significant history, having contributed to the famous Asian collection at the Rijksmuseum, which remains legally owned by the Society. The discerning eye of VVAK members has consistently led to the acquisition of high-quality Asian art. 'Asia from the Heart' runs parallel to 'A Devine Gift', the VVAK's jubilee exhibition from its own collection, which is temporarily housed at Museum Het Princessehof in Leeuwarden. The Geelvinck Pianola Huis will also host lectures, presentations, and music performances during this exhibition series, with future themes planned to explore art from Japan, India, and Indonesia.
