Exhibition summary

This exhibition featured seven young Amsterdam artists reflecting on the seven deadly sins, with their work displayed in the Cromhouthuis. The presentation aimed to explore the contemporary relevance of these ancient concepts, drawing connections to biblical narratives and art history.

Curatorial context

The presentation series 'Zonde' (Sin) invited seven young Amsterdam-based artists to reflect on the concept of sin, specifically the seven deadly sins defined historically. The exhibition aimed to explore what these sins meant in a contemporary context (around 2015). The works were exhibited in the Cromhouthuis. The exhibition also included historical prints by Pieter Brueghel and paintings that elucidated aspects of sin in biblical stories, drawing from the museum's collection. Complementing these historical elements, bronze sculptures by Paul Gomez, explicitly portraying the deadly sins, were also shown. In May 2016, the historical setup made way for the contemporary artworks, which were then displayed for a month in the Bible Room of the Bijbels Museum.
