Curatorial context
For Almere's 50th anniversary, Kunstlinie opens its art depot to reveal the 'Collectie Almere: van Depot tot Atelier'. This exhibition is conceived as a living narrative, inviting visitors to re-read, reinterpret, and remake the collection's story. It goes beyond a simple retrospective, positioning the collection as an inspiration for new generations of makers, thinkers, and dreamers. The exhibition is designed as an immersive experience, guiding visitors on a journey from storage to presentation and creation, engaging them through space, light, imagery, and their own involvement. Works from the past are juxtaposed with new perspectives from contemporary Almere-based artists, curated by Kasper Jongejan, Mark Wiechman, and Mik Augusteijn. Selected from an open call that attracted over 70 artists, 44 local makers were chosen for their diverse backgrounds, materials, aesthetics, and compelling artistic content that resonates with the Collectie Almere.
Additionally, three studios are set up for artists to develop new work in an inspiring environment. The exhibition highlights specific artists like Kate Dix, who explores her cultural heritage and queer identity through mixed media; Bridget Vogelvang, focusing on tactile experience, vulnerability, and connection through intuitive material exploration; and Tessa Den Boef, a graphic illustrator whose dynamic works are rooted in personal experiences and combine analog and digital techniques. The exhibition also features 'De KinderCollectie', a mini-exhibition by children inspired by their encounters with the collection and artists, showcasing their fresh perspectives and imaginative artworks.
