Exhibition summary

This exhibition showcases the future city visions of young urban planners. Forty-five students from three Amsterdam technical high schools researched the Couperusbuurt to develop plans for a city that balances densification with greening, improvement, and sustainability.

Curatorial context

The exhibition 'De stad van de toekomst!' (The City of the Future!) presents the innovative urban planning ideas developed by young students. For six months, 45 fourth-year students from the Caland Lyceum, Damstede Lyceum, and Metis Montessori Lyceum engaged in research within Amsterdam's Couperusbuurt. Guided by experts and their teachers, they tackled the challenge of designing a future city that must simultaneously grow denser, become greener, improve existing structures, and embrace sustainability. Their resulting future plans, born from this intensive project, are now on display at the Van Eesteren Museum. Visitors are invited to discover and admire these forward-thinking designs, offering a glimpse into what the city of tomorrow might look like through the eyes of its future inhabitants. The exhibition is made possible with support from Rabobank and the ELJA Foundation.
