The exhibition 'Eva, Sara en Hanna. Vrouwen van de wereld' by artist Caroline Waltman offers a fresh perspective on biblical figures, giving them a contemporary face. The photographs portray these women, such as Eva, Sara, and Hanna, within their own environments, presenting them as relatable figures—whether as young women who could have been Eva or Hanna, or older figures like Sara or Elisabeth, or even sisters like Martha and Maria. The exhibition is enhanced by landscape shots and still lifes that create visual rhymes and deepen the viewer's engagement. To aid visitors who may not be familiar with biblical narratives, two infographics by British designer Karen Sawrey are presented. These illustrate 'influential women' from the Bible and briefly describe their contributions, making their stories and significance more accessible. Many of the locations where Waltman photographed have a geographical connection to the Bible, including Jordan, Egypt, Israel, Greece (Patmos), and Italy, adding a layer of historical and geographical context. The connections the artist draws between her photographs and the biblical characters are associative and open-ended, allowing each viewer to forge their own relationships between the worldly portraits and the biblical women they represent. The exhibition is hosted at OBA Oosterdok.
