Curatorial context
On September 28, 2023, OBA Oosterdok will host an experience-oriented lecture titled ‘Het mannelijke in de vrouw’ (The Male in the Woman), featuring Jungian depth therapists Mireille Steenkamer and Bouchra Arbaoui. The lecture focuses on Carl Jung's concept of the 'Animus,' the unconscious male psychological component within women, and its parallel to the 'Anima' in men. The speakers will examine how an unconscious Animus can cause distress and hinder a woman's growth, and conversely, how becoming aware of this inner man can serve as a bridge to healthy relationships and unlock creative potential.
This event is inspired by the Bijbels Museum's exhibition, ‘Eva, Sara en Hanna. Vrouwen van de wereld,’ which runs from September 1 to December 31 in Amsterdam. Steenkamer and Arbaoui, who have extensive experience with the Animus as an archetypal energy, will guide attendees through an exploration of this archetype’s influence on women, both personally and in their therapeutic work with clients.
