Zwaan Kleef Aan is a creative workshop activity developed for the 'Onder de Zwaan' exhibition, encouraging participants to create personal heritage collages and symbolic swan sculptures from recycled materials. The resulting artworks are displayed in the museum.
Zwaan Kleef Aan is a special creative activity developed for the exhibition 'Onder de Zwaan' at the Luther Museum Amsterdam. It comprises two main components: creating collages and making symbolic swan sculptures. For the collage part, participants are encouraged to bring a personal heritage object, such as an old photo, piece of jewelry, or beloved book, and will be provided with paper and magazines for association. Those wishing to take their own photos will need to bring a camera. For the swan-making, all materials, including recycled items from the exhibition, are provided to design a personal symbolic swan. This activity is open to everyone, regardless of age, and participation is included with a valid museum ticket. The workshop is inspired by the work of visual artist Helmut Smits, who created new pieces for the 'Onder de Zwaan' exhibition, offering a fresh perspective on heritage through his collages and his unique view of everyday objects. His commissioned works in the museum gallery feature 15 photo collages that update historical objects for the year 2026, serving as inspiration for the activity.
