Nieuweaarde.nu presents a selection of outstanding submissions from an Open Call inspired by the biblical theme of a new heaven and new earth. Over 250 artists submitted work, drawing inspiration from diverse sources including the Bible, nature, mysticism, and philosophy.
Nieuweaarde.nu features a curated selection of submissions from an Open Call of the same name, organized by the Bijbels Museum in 2020. The theme, drawn from Revelation 21:1, invited artists to reflect on the concept of a new heaven and a new earth. Over 250 artists responded, drawing inspiration from a wide array of sources including biblical texts, nature, spiritual writings from figures like Hildegard von Bingen, Buddhism, Taoism, Rumi, numerology, and even song lyrics. Many artists also focused on restoring the feminine aspect, Mother Earth, or 'the Goddess' in their work.
The online exhibition itself comprises ninety selected submissions, offering a diverse digital showcase of these creative interpretations. While a past physical exhibition, 'Nieuwe aarde: 12 visioenen', was held in 2020 at the Westerkerk Amsterdam featuring twelve works, the 'Nieuweaarde.nu' platform serves as the primary accessible showcase for a broader collection of the Open Call entries.
