Writer and photographer Johny Pitts embarked on a European journey to investigate his place as a Black European and the diverse experiences of the continent's Black communities. This exhibition showcases his photographic documentation of this exploration, capturing impressions of everyday urban landscapes from London to Moscow. The images serve as a poetic counterpoint to his book, 'Afropean - Notes from Black Europe,' which delves into the 'Afropean' identity and brings to the surface the underexposed histories of Black Europeans. The exhibition highlights encounters with communities, often in marginalized, multicultural, working-class enclaves, and emphasizes the interconnectedness of African and European influences within Black identities. It was created by Foam and Forum on European Culture, curated by Johny Pitts and Foam, and realized in The Black Archives on the occasion of the Dutch translation of his book.
