The RE:FWD: Zine Bread Buffet is a workshop and discussion event featuring artists Sophie Soobramanien and Shreya de Souza. Participants will explore themes of hope and hopelessness through the artists' special edition zine, 'Slippery Hope,' inspired by key thinkers and current social issues.
This event, the RE:FWD: Zine Bread Buffet, centers around a workshop and loose reading group led by artists Sophie Soobramanien and Shreya de Souza. They will discuss their special edition zine, 'Slippery Hope,' created for and about the exhibition RE:FWD. The workshop will delve into themes of hope and hopelessness, examining personal strategies for building a critical and active hope in the current moment. The artists draw inspiration from thinkers like Bell Hooks, Brazilian Quilombos, and Amílcar Cabral, exploring concepts of trust and the commons. Sophie and Shreya specialize in translating academic research on social themes into accessible, low-budget mini-magazines known as zines. Their new edition, 'Slippery Hope,' is particularly inspired by Rebecca Solnit's 'Hope in the Dark' and Mariame Kaba's 'Hope is a Discipline,' adding a substantive layer to the RE:FWD exhibition. During this special 'Bread Buffet' session at Kunstlinie, the artists will engage participants in a dialogue about their findings within the exhibition itself.
