Symposion De mens als kruispunt: A Philosophical Exploration of Human Existence and Eternity

This symposion, held on October 17, 2021, at Landgoed Renova in Bilthoven, explores the human experience at the intersection of time and eternity. It features speakers, poets, and musicians delving into themes of mortality, endless life, and the interpretation of wisdom found in various sacred texts and philosophical traditions.

The Bijbels Museum, in collaboration with Stichting Rozenkruis, organized a symposion on October 17, 2021, at Landgoed Renova in Bilthoven, titled 'De mens als kruispunt' (The Human as Crossroads). This event delved into the profound question of how humans, subject to time and change, can 'win' eternal life, drawing upon wisdom from the Bible, other sacred texts, and philosophical traditions. The program featured a diverse array of speakers, including poet and writer Gershwin Bonevacia, theologian Sjon Groen, poet and author Marjolijn van Heemstra, theologian and Jung expert Hugo van Hooreweghe, and Elly Nooyen discussing the Taoist perspective. Musical intermezzi were provided by harp duo Carla Bos and Wendy Rijken. The day, guided by Carolien Croon, director of the Bijbels Museum, was inspired by the museum's exhibition 'Tijd en Eeuwigheid. Poëzie in beeld en woord' (Time and Eternity. Poetry in Image and Word). Discussions focused on understanding the human as a 'crossroads' between time and eternity, questioning whether this state is recognizable in our own lives and whether eternity is found in the present moment or in the future. Attendees were offered a vegetarian lunch and the opportunity to visit the estate's bookstore.

The cost for the symposion is €50, which includes a vegetarian lunch and access to the bookshop. Students can attend for €15.
