On July 1, 2024, The Black Archives (TBA), as part of the broader Keti Koti Festival, presents a special program at Museumplein titled 'The Future of the Past: Route to Recovery'. This event aims to explore the legacy of the slavery past and its impact on contemporary society through two panel discussions and spoken word performances. The first panel, 'Impact of Historical Apologies on Contemporary Politics and Society,' will delve into the implications of recent apologies from Dutch governments for their role in slavery, particularly in the context of rising far-right political movements, and how these might shape future policies. The second discussion, 'Route to Recovery: Practical Steps after Recognition,' will focus on actionable steps following acknowledged apologies, including investments in education, economic opportunities, and psychological and spiritual support to enhance the position of the Afro-Dutch community. This discussion follows the advisory report ‘Route Naar Herstel’ presented by Zwart Manifest to the municipality of Amsterdam.
