Willem – De prijs van vrijheid' traces the pivotal moments of Willem van Oranje's life, starting from his inheritance of the title and estates at age eleven in 1544, and his establishment in Breda, which set the stage for his eventual conflict with Philip II and Spain. The exhibition highlights his role as the face of the Dutch Revolt, detailing the escalating conflict and the immense personal sacrifices—possessions, fortune, and family—he made in pursuit of freedom. Presented for the first time in conjunction with Museum Prinsenhof Delft, the exhibition connects his narrative across Delft and Breda. While Museum Prinsenhof Delft is temporarily closed for renovations, Breda is hosting a significant part of its Delft collection. A highlight is a cast of his tomb monument; although Willem wished to be buried in Breda, historical circumstances led to his burial in Delft. Symbolically, Breda will host a resting place for him during the exhibition.
