The exhibition 'Zondvloed nu' delves into the globally recognized theme of a catastrophic flood, presenting the visions of nine photographers, both emerging and established, commissioned by the Bijbels Museum. These artists were inspired to explore the meaning and relevance of the flood narrative in today's world. The resulting body of work offers a diverse range of interpretations, characterized by reflection and social critique. While acknowledging the flood as a potential threat, the photographers also infuse their works with a sense of hope. The exhibition draws inspiration from various cultural and religious traditions that feature deluge myths. It references the earliest known account in the Mesopotamian Epic of Gilgamesh, where Utnapishtim survives a world-ending flood, as well as the more widely known biblical story of Noah's Ark from the Book of Genesis. The participating artists were further inspired by seven storytellers from Christian, Jewish, and Islamic traditions, enriching the exhibition's depth and breadth.
