The value of the Madrid City Card depends on your specific itinerary and reliance on public transport. Since the card bundles unlimited Zone A transport with diverse cultural discounts, it is most beneficial for visitors who plan to combine frequent travel across Madrid with visits to several of the participating cultural attractions. As the card offers different types of reductions—such as percentage discounts, fixed-price savings, or priority access—rather than comprehensive free entry, you should compare the price of your chosen pass option (available in 1 to 5-day increments) against the cost of individual transport tickets and the specific admission discounts offered at the museums you intend to visit.

Additional Madrid City Card Benefits

Beyond museum access, the Madrid City Card provides varied benefits across the city. Review each item to see if it is included, discounted, or available as an optional service.

How to use the pass
Review purchase, activation, and important usage details for Madrid City Card before you visit.

01

How it works

Use the transport element to travel within its covered Madrid zone and present the card's QR code when claiming a listed venue offer. Attraction relationships are not uniform: one museum may provide a percentage discount, another a fixed reduction or special ticket price, and another only a priority-access benefit with admission still payable. Unless an offer explicitly says otherwise, treat it as a one-time benefit and confirm the current redemption instructions before arriving.

02

Purchase and activation

Purchase the physical Madrid City Card from an eligible Madrid City Council Tourist Information Office and choose the required number of days. The transport validity begins with first use, but the purchased period is expressed in calendar days rather than separate rolling 24-hour blocks. Plan collection and first use so that the card is not activated late in a day with little remaining travel time.

Important information

This is not an all-inclusive museum pass: the principal value is Zone A transport combined with discounts and access benefits. A discounted museum still requires payment of the remaining admission price, and a priority-access benefit does not itself include a ticket. Children under four do not need the card, while the published child product applies to children under eleven. Offers can change independently of the transport product, so check the live Madrid City Card benefit list.
