This exhibition at Fundación Canal presents 135 works by iconic photographer Elliott Erwitt, exploring his signature blend of humor and insight. The show is divided into three sections focusing on people, animals, and abstract compositions, showcasing his unique perspective on everyday life.
Fundación Canal presents 'Elliott Erwitt. La comedia humana', a significant exhibition featuring 135 works by the renowned photographer Elliott Erwitt. His philosophy, 'For a photograph to be good, it must have balance, form, and background. But for it to be very good, it must also have an indefinable magic,' perfectly encapsulates his influential career. The exhibition is structured into three iconic thematic sections: people, animals, and forms, reflecting Erwitt's primary sources of inspiration.
The first section invites visitors to observe Erwitt's unforgettable captures that elevated everyday moments into extraordinary photographs. The second section delves into his emblematic shots of animals, particularly dogs, capturing their unique perspectives and the profound connection humans have with them. The third section offers a journey through his more abstract works, characterized by unexpected compositions that frame the 'human comedy' he sought to portray. Each section comprises 'work prints,' originally used by Erwitt for books or magazines, and 'master prints,' large-format period copies specifically created for museum and gallery display. This unique collection, directly from Elliott Erwitt's studio, is presented to the public for the first time in this curated arrangement. The exhibition is coproduced by Magnum Photos and Fundación Canal, with Andrea Holzherr, Global Exhibitions Director at Magnum Photos, serving as curator.
