Exhibition summary

Vataria Teatro presents 'Teatreo "¡Oh, Musas!"', a comedy exploring the creative process behind theatre production, inspired by Lope de Vega's work. The play delves into the relationship between writers and the Muses, questioning the balance of inspiration and authorship.

Curatorial context

In the offices of Parnassus, a flurry of activity ensues as creators seek inspiration from the Muses for their latest works. This play, '¡Oh, Musas!', by Vataria Teatro, centers on Calíope, the Muse of eloquence, as she listens to Lope de Vega's request for a novel argument for his new play. However, not all Muses are eager to assist, especially given Lope's prolific past of over eight hundred comedies. The performance is a comedy that examines the delicate weaving of theatrical works, using Lope de Vega's play 'La vengadora de las mujeres' as a backdrop. It prompts contemplation on the extent to which writers create and muses inspire, or vice versa.
