Curatorial context

The Madrid Railway Museum is hosting 'El entorno de mi vida,' a special temporary exhibition of watercolors by Vera Callejo, running from September 27th to December 9th. Born over eight decades ago in the vicinity of the station, the artist's life has been intrinsically linked to the Delicias station and its surroundings. Her family, deeply rooted in the railway profession, played a significant role in her upbringing, with young Vera often playing on the station's tracks. From her balcony, she witnessed various events, including festivals, cinema screenings, boxing matches, and especially football games of 'La Ferro,' the local team, which ignited her passion for the sport. In commemoration of the Madrid Railway Museum's 40th anniversary, Vera Callejo emotionally presents this exhibition as a tribute to the Delicias station, the enduring backdrop of her life. Vera Callejo studied at the Escuela Central de Arte y Oficios and the Agrupación Española de Acuarelistas (AEDA), where she is now an honorary member. She has conducted watercolor courses and is a contributor to ABC newspaper for its covers and color illustrations. Her artistic themes encompass figures, portraits, still lifes, interiors, landscapes, seascapes, and, notably, railways. She has participated in numerous national and international exhibitions, receiving awards such as Medals at the Autumn Salons of the Association of Painters and Sculptors, the Felipe Trigo Award from the Madrid City Council, and various national painting awards. She has held over a hundred solo exhibitions across Spain, as well as in New York and Tokyo. Callejo was part of the Julio Quesada group and is currently a member of the 'Amigos de Lamadrid' group, formed in honor of her teacher and husband, Manuel M. Lamadrid.
