Expanding Access at St John's College: The Launch of the Inspire Hub
St John’s College in Oxford has officially launched the Inspire Hub, an innovative digital platform designed to combine academic enrichment, interactive learning, and study skills development into a single, accessible space for young people. As part of the institution's ongoing outreach and educational mission, the platform unites existing sustained contact programmes for Year 9 students and upwards, offering flexible learning journeys that fit smoothly around school timetables.
Enhancing Academic Enrichment and Critical Thinking in Oxford
The newly introduced digital hub transforms traditional educational formats—most notably the College’s Inspire Critical Thinking programme—into an interactive experience. Students can engage with videos, test their knowledge, and enter competitions focused on deep-dive topics that encourage exploration beyond the standard school curriculum.
Early adoption has been swift, with nearly 1,700 students and 60 teachers engaging with over 2,000 learning activities since the platform's rollout. Designed to support long-term educational journeys, the system aims to build confidence and academic aspiration, providing valuable support for prospective applicants to higher education.
Philanthropic Support and Future Outreach
The development and launch of the platform were made possible by a $150,000 gift provided in 2021 by alumnus and technology entrepreneur Will Sentance. A Philosophy, Politics and Economics graduate and founder of the coding bootcamp Codesmith, Sentance sought to support educational accessibility and create lasting networks for future generations of students.
Head of Access and Outreach Elly Rundle notes that the platform is particularly beneficial for young people who may be unable to visit physical campuses due to geographic location or other commitments. By removing barriers to entry, the Inspire Hub ensures that high-quality academic resources remain available to students regardless of their starting point.
