Curatorial context
The permanent exposition at the National Museum of Agriculture's Valtice branch is dedicated to the history of wine presses and wine-making implements. It documents the long development of wine-processing technologies, making it one of the largest permanent exhibitions of its kind in the Museum of Viticulture, Gardening, and Landscape in Valtice. The collection includes early wooden presses, some dating back to 1719, as well as more modern metal presses. A particularly dominant exhibit is a large wooden press measuring 2.45 meters tall, 3 meters wide, with a 1.5 by 1.5 meter bowl and an estimated weight of 2,000 kilograms. The exhibition also features presses utilizing heavy beams, a press from Moravian Wallachia with a stone bowl, and a homemade press from 1910 with factory-made pressing screws. Complementing the presses are wine barrels of various volumes and smaller harvest implements such as hand mills, wooden hampers, and grape-picking knives, providing a comprehensive overview of historical viticultural practices.
