Acosta Danza Brings World Premiere of Cuban Baroque to York Theatre Royal
Acosta Danza is heading to York for a major theatrical milestone, announcing the UK premiere and opening tour dates of a brand-new double bill titled Cuban Baroque. The production will be staged in collaboration with the historic venue, marking the company's first-ever visit to the stage.
Experiencing the World Premiere in York
The performances are scheduled to run from Thursday 1 October to Saturday 3 October. Theatregoers attending the opening run will be the very first to experience the fusion of classical Baroque artistry and dynamic Cuban movement styles.
The evening is split into two distinct parts. Opening the night is the world premiere of Pearls, a new creation by Andonis Foniadakis. Set to a live performance of Esteban Sallas’ Salve Regina, the piece explores looping structures, rapid acceleration, and a vibrant dialogue between choral breathing and percussive drive.
The second half features Goyo Montero’s demanding ensemble piece, Chacona. Originally crafted for the Staatstheater Nürnberg Ballet, the piece is set to the final movement of Bach’s Partita No. 2 in D Minor, accompanied by guitar and piano, with a 16-dancer ensemble moving in precise cohesion.

Following its opening run, the production is set to travel to Sadler’s Wells in London and the Norwich Theatre Royal, with additional dates planned for 2027.
