York Theatre Royal has announced a major new production, confirming that Amelia Bullmore will return to the stage to star as Penelope in Margaret Atwood’s acclaimed work The Penelopiad. Directed by the venue's Creative Director, Juliet Forster, the production has also extended its run.

Adapted from Margaret Atwood’s novella of the same name, the production offers an energetic and humorous reworking of Homer’s epic narrative, shifting the perspective to give a voice to Penelope and her chorus of maids. Bullmore expresses enthusiasm for the project, noting the sharp, witty, and moving nature of Atwood's writing.
Juliet Forster shares this sentiment, highlighting the depth of the central character and welcoming Bullmore to lead the ensemble. This staging marks the first major UK revival of the piece since its premiere production at the Swan Theatre in Stratford-Upon-Avon.
