Rijksmuseum Amsterdam Showcases Young Talent with Document Netherlands Junior Photography Exhibition
The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam is once again highlighting emerging talent through its annual Document Netherlands Junior exhibition, displayed in the museum's Photography Gallery. This initiative runs concurrently with the larger Document Netherlands exhibition, providing a platform for the next generation of photographers.
Discovering New Perspectives: Document Netherlands Junior
Document Netherlands Junior is an annual competition designed for aspiring photographers attending secondary schools and vocational colleges. Participants tackle the same relevant social themes explored by the professional Document Netherlands commission. Each year, nine young nominees are selected to participate in an intensive masterclass led by industry experts, including photographer Eddo Hartmann, Fotolab Kiekie, Irma Boom Office, and staff from the Rijksmuseum itself. The photographic series developed by these students during the masterclass are then featured in the exhibition, offering visitors fresh perspectives on contemporary issues.
This junior competition complements the long-standing Document Netherlands photography commission, which the Rijksmuseum has hosted annually since 1975. This established program invites a Dutch photographer to document a specific topical social theme, a tradition that the junior competition now extends to young artists. The Document Netherlands Junior program is supported in part by the Rijksmuseum Fonds, specifically the Floor Fonds.
