RIJKS® Restaurant at Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum Unveils Pop-Up During Renovation
RIJKS® Restaurant, known for its culinary experience at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, is set to open a temporary pop-up location at Amsterdam Zuidas this summer. This move comes as the main restaurant undergoes a significant renovation, preparing for a grand reopening later in the autumn.
The pop-up initiative offers a unique opportunity for diners to experience RIJKS®'s innovative cuisine while the Museumstraat location is refreshed. Executive Chef Joris Bijdendijk, alongside chefs Friso van Amerongen and Yascha Oosterberg, will lead the culinary team at the temporary space.
Discover New Flavors at the Zuidas Pop-Up
Located at Gustav Mahlerplein 1B, the RIJKS® POP UP will operate from late August until mid-October. This temporary venue is designed as a creative kitchen and discovery space, where the chefs will develop new dishes for the upcoming menu. Patrons can expect to find both new culinary explorations and beloved RIJKS® classics on offer, with new additions introduced weekly.
Chef Joris Bijdendijk highlighted the pop-up's role in shaping the future menu, stating that it might be the last chance for guests to taste some signature dishes before they evolve. He emphasized the location as a place for discovering new products, combinations, and preparation methods. To maintain an element of surprise for the new dishes, guests are kindly requested not to photograph their food at the pop-up.
A New Chapter for RIJKS® at the Rijksmuseum
The main RIJKS® Restaurant at the Rijksmuseum is undergoing a major renovation, which includes a new interior and an entirely refreshed menu. The goal is to create a vibrant, relaxed, and welcoming dining environment. Following the pop-up's closure, the renovated RIJKS® Restaurant is slated to reopen at its familiar Museumstraat address at the end of October.
The restaurant's core philosophy, focusing on Dutch culinary heritage, remains central. Both the pop-up and the future renovated restaurant will prioritize the use of high-quality, sustainable, and local Dutch products. The renovation itself will also incorporate sustainable and circular design principles.
