Behrang Mousavi Appointed Head of Collection Management at Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam
The Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam has announced the appointment of Behrang Mousavi as its new Head of Collection Management, effective October 1, 2025. Mousavi has been serving as interim head of the department since the beginning of the year and will now permanently oversee its policy and daily operations.
Mousavi brings extensive experience to his new role, with a background as a museologist, curator, and heritage specialist within the cultural sector. His previous positions include significant time at the former Netherlands Architecture Institute and later Het Nieuwe Instituut, where he led the National Collection for Architecture and Urban Planning, one of the country's most important heritage collections. Before that, he held various roles with the Municipality of The Hague, including curator and museum policy officer. Beyond his leadership positions, Mousavi is actively involved as a board member and advisor for organizations such as the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts (AFK) and the Centre for Visual Arts Rotterdam.
Rein Wolfs, Director of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, praised Mousavi's contributions: “Behrang has demonstrated exceptional authority and vision in leading the Collection Management department. His strategic understanding, deep commitment to the collection, and collaborative approach make him an invaluable asset to the museum. As Head of Collection Management, Mousavi also joins the museum’s management team.
