From October 1st to 31st, Oude Kerk, in collaboration with the Hartwig Art Foundation, showcases a sound installation by Portuguese artist Ana Guedes. For this installation, she draws inspiration from her family archive, particularly their extensive record collection that charts their migration across three continents. The collection began with records purchased in Angola in the 1960s, expanding to include vinyl from Portugal and Canada through the 1980s. The physical condition of these records—the scratches and worn covers—serve as poignant indicators of time's passage and the family's displacement. These passive witnesses to a journey through time and space form the core of Guedes's artistic inquiry into memory and history. This exhibition is part of a broader initiative by the Hartwig Art Foundation, which supports artists in creating ambitious new works. The fund aims to foster experimentation and creativity, with selected artworks acquired by the foundation and donated to the Dutch State.
