Curatorial context
The 1.Lectures series, in collaboration with the Academy of Architecture, continues its exploration of "An Optimistic Contingency Plan" with a lecture by the Belgian BC architects & studies & materials on September 18, 2025. BC is a hybrid practice operating under three branches in Belgium: BC architects (architecture office), BC studies (education and research organisation), and BC materials (materials production). They aim for bioregional, low-tech, circular, beautiful, and inclusive designs, viewing 'building' as a tool for systemic change. Their approach integrates thinking and making, encompassing community organization, materials production, contracting, education, and prototyping to positively impact people and the planet. BC studies specifically functions as a non-profit research and education laboratory, exploring the material environment through construction and production processes, with a focus on education, consultancy, workshops, and published research.
