Barcam #17, held on March 6, 2025, centers on the theme 'Designing Dignified Asylum Shelters.' The event confronts the reality of shared bedrooms in many asylum centers and the profound impact of lacking privacy on refugees' mental and physical well-being, their ability to integrate, and their sense of control. Nanne Wytze Brouwer and Anneloes de Koff, along with individuals with lived experience, will present their architectural explorations into creating more just living conditions for asylum seekers and permit holders in the Netherlands. The discussion aims to uncover how small design interventions can significantly improve the daily lives of residents. The panel features insights from architects Anneloes de Koff (Studio Antidote) and Saeed Jarrous (Gertemaker Algra Feenstra Architecten), project manager Nanne Wytze Brouwer (De Toekomstfabriek), environmental psychologist Joren van Dijk, and the architectural firm Burobeb-, which collaborates with COA (Central Agency for Asylum Seekers).
