Curatorial context

April 2026 is dedicated to 'My City Tours', featuring events that combine personal narratives, architectural insights, and discussions on urban challenges. The 'City without papers – Stories from Bajesdorp' tour, led by storytellers Elke and Teferi, offers a unique perspective on Amsterdam. This English-language cycling tour delves into the lives of undocumented Amsterdammers, highlighting their struggles, solidarity, and efforts to create space within the city despite restrictive policies. It explores how these individuals organize through collectives and creative networks, building new forms of solidarity and asserting their right to exist. The tour specifically focuses on Bajesdorp, a community on the grounds of the former Bijlmerbajes prison, which hosts GROND (a café and art space) and We Sell Reality (a social-artistic label visible in the refugee experience). The guides, Elke and Teferi, are social designers and activists involved with 'We Sell Reality' and 'We Are Here', an organization advocating for basic rights. They will share personal stories about their experiences, address negative portrayals of refugees, and discuss new collaborative approaches to city-building.

Admission and ticket notes

Tickets cost €7.50 and include admission to Arcam. Free tickets can also be reserved. The tour is 1.5 hours long and starts at GROND, Bajesdorp, Blijdorpstraat 1.
