Exhibition summary

This exhibition highlights the significant impact of data centers on Amsterdam's urban landscape and public conversation. It delves into the reasons behind the proliferation of these facilities, their substantial electricity consumption, and the influence of AI on their growth.

Curatorial context

The "Talk of the Town Exhibition: Data Centers" at Arcam focuses on the burgeoning presence of data centers within the Amsterdam region, a topic currently shaping public discourse. The exhibition specifically addresses the construction of Amsterdam's largest data center in the Westelijk Havengebied, a complex by Pure Data Centers featuring three 85-meter towers each with 26 megawatts of data capacity, totaling 100,000 square meters of floor area. This mini-exhibition aims to shed light on the critical questions surrounding these facilities: why Amsterdam is becoming a hub for data centers, their immense electricity demands and implications for the overloaded Dutch power grid, the growing influence of artificial intelligence (AI) on their development, and the types of clients utilizing these services. Visitors will gain a deeper understanding of the impact data centers are having on the built environment of Amsterdam.

Admission and ticket notes

Admission prices for all exhibitions at Arcam are €5.00 for adults, €2.50 for students, and free for City Pass holders, those aged 0-18, companions of visitors with disabilities, and I Amsterdam City Card holders. The exhibition is open Tuesday to Sunday from 13:00 to 17:00.
