Explore Expo Living Soil: An Exhibition Visualizing Urban Soil Biodiversity at Arcam in Amsterdam

This exhibition showcases the final outcome of the research-by-design project 'Living Soil,' presenting a two-dimensional artwork that visualizes the rich biodiversity and functions of urban soil. It explores the crucial role of soil life in supporting environmental benefits like climate change mitigation and water purification.

During Amsterdam Architecture Month 2023, Arcam presents 'Expo Living Soil: A visual language for urban soil biodiversity.' This exhibition is the culmination of a research-by-design project initiated in January 2023 by Inside Outside, supported by the Creative Industries Fund NL. The project involved collaboration with soil scientists, ecologists, designers, artists, tree experts, and urbanists to create an informative artwork that illustrates the depth and diversity of soil life. Visitors will see the final results from phase 1, including small objects and drawings developed during Open Ateliers. The exhibition emphasizes the soil as a critical habitat, home to a vast array of life forms from bacteria to earthworms, which provide immeasurable benefits such as climate change mitigation, water storage, and erosion prevention. The artistic and research team is developing an accessible visual language to inform and inspire the public, clients, governments, and scientists about the importance of soil biodiversity, aiming to foster a supportive and activated approach to its preservation and promotion.

Admission to all exhibitions and installations during the Amsterdam Architecture Month 2023, including this exhibition, is free. The exhibition is located at Arcam, Prins Hendrikkade 600, and is open Tuesday to Sunday from 1 PM to 5 PM.
