BoCA – Biennial of Contemporary Arts – returns in 2025 with an innovative proposal, a shared program between Lisbon and Madrid. The biennial establishes a new Iberian axis of artistic creation and presentation, bringing together transdisciplinary projects that span the performing and visual arts, music, and cinema. Curated by John Romão, this fifth edition is titled 'Camino Irreal.' Between the echo and historical weight of colonization and the distorted shortcuts of the post-truth era, 'Camino Irreal' is an invitation to deviation, symbolic displacement, and the possibility of reconfiguring the role of the artist and the spectator. It is a path that does not appear on tourist maps or in official guides but beats within the bodies that create, resist, and move, both geographically and artistically. Within this framework, the Museo del Traje hosts a presentation featuring Niño de Elche, a singular figure in the Spanish music and performance scene, and Pedro G. Romero, a visual artist and researcher. Their collaborative work questions crystallized forms of tradition, confronting them with the present. This journey has led them from the fandango to Portuguese tango, from the viola campaniça to Sephardic liturgy, aiming to restore popular culture's capacity for hybridity, conflict, and constant reinvention.
