This exhibition, the first of its kind in Spain, showcases original photographs by Edward Steichen for Vogue and Vanity Fair between 1923 and 1937. It captures contemporary culture, including fashion, and portraits of stars and designers of the era.
Edward Steichen. Fotografía de moda (Los años de Condé Nast, 1923-1937) brings together for the first time in Spain original photographs by the renowned artist Edward Steichen (1879-1973) for Vogue and Vanity Fair. During his fifteen years with the Condé Nast publishing house, Steichen masterfully documented contemporary culture, covering literature, journalism, sports, cinema, and haute couture. His lens captured the era's biggest stars, such as Greta Garbo and Gary Cooper, and vividly portrayed the fashion trends and influential designers of the time, including Chanel, Lanvin, and Schiaparelli. The exhibition is curated by William Ewing, Todd Brandow, and Nathalie Herschdorfer, and organized by the Foundation for the Exhibition of Photography (Minneapolis), the Musée de L’Elysée in Lausanne, and the Subdirección General de Promoción de las Bellas Artes, Ministry of Culture. It is presented in the temporary exhibition hall on the ground floor of the Museo del Traje.
Guided visits are available on Thursdays in July and August as part of 'Summer in the Museums' with extended hours until 22:30. Special guided visits to the Edward Steichen exhibition are offered at 20:00 and 21:00 on these Thursdays. Prior registration is required for participation in these guided tours.
