This guided tour, 'La exposición permanente, al detalle,' explores themes of sexual and gender diversity throughout history and across cultures. It highlights how diverse identities are not new phenomena and reflects on the impact of colonization on these aspects, examining LGBTQ+ experiences in various global contexts and recent Spanish history.
The guided tour 'La exposición permanente, al detalle' delves into the enduring presence of diverse sexual and gender identities across history and cultures, emphasizing that these are not modern or exclusively Western concepts. Organized in collaboration with FELGTBI+, the tour aims to show how many global cultures have historically recognized a variety of gender identities, desires, and expressions. Participants will reflect on the influence of colonization on the sexual diversity of colonized peoples, examine the situations of LGBTQ+ individuals in various African nations, and discover historical gender expressions in North American plains cultures and the Philippines. The tour concludes by focusing on the evolution of diversity in Spain's recent history, encouraging a new perspective on the museum's collections and the world we inhabit.
This activity is part of the museum's commitment to social engagement, promoting equality, tolerance, freedom, and dignity for all individuals, regardless of their social status, sexual orientation, beliefs, culture, identity, or skin color. It specifically targets adults and takes place on select Wednesdays and Saturdays in March and April 2026.
