Curatorial context

The exhibition 'The Silk Road. Ancient Chinese Textiles' presents a rare opportunity to view significant pieces from the National Silk Museum of China, which holds the most important collection related to this ancient production. The exhibition guides visitors on a journey through silk products that circulated between the 1st and 19th centuries along the famed route connecting the Far East and the West. Comprising over fifty pieces, many recovered from early centuries' burial sites, the exhibition features flat weaves of extraordinary beauty, alongside exceptionally rare tunics, footwear, and headdresses. Silk, coveted for its strength, shine, and texture, was a key ancient secret and its export fostered one of history's most mythical trade routes.
