This exhibition, titled 'Machinations (inglés)', critically re-examines the concept of 'machine' as developed by philosophers Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari. It features nearly fifty artists whose work explores diverse forms of resistance, coalition, and creativity, largely connected to the Mediterranean and Africa.
Based on a critical reinterpretation of the 'machine' concept by philosophers Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari, the research and exhibition 'Machinations' brings together nearly fifty artists exploring various forms of resistance, coalition, and creativity, predominantly linked to the Mediterranean and Africa. The exhibition utilizes a wide array of expressive languages and mediums, including drawings, paintings, performance, installations, and videos. It addresses themes such as the necessity of placing the defense of the common at the center of political-artistic reflection and practice, alongside denouncing the devastating environmental and social effects of certain economic and institutional practices.
This publication documents the curators' proposal through an essay and a visual record of the artworks featured in the exhibition, some of which were conceived specifically for the occasion. The book is further enriched by a compilation of texts from the scientific committee and collaborators involved in the prior research, which articulates the selected works along three interconnected axes: War Machines, Schizo Machines, and Cinema and Care Machines. The resulting publication reflects the transversal and collaborative approach that underpins the entire project.
