The National Museum of Roman Art of Merida (MNAR) has a long-standing engagement with Cultural Volunteering, evidenced by an Erasmus Plus project in 2018-2019. To build on this experience, an annual ICOM Europe spring Seminar was planned for Merida in 2020, co-organized by MNAR, ICOM Europe, and ICOM Spain. The seminar's primary objective was to explore and define the role and various facets of cultural volunteering within European museums, highlighting its significance as a reflection of civil society's engagement. Over three days, attendees were expected to gain insights into MNAR and the World Heritage site, fostering discussions and comparisons of volunteering experiences, which are increasingly relevant in the 21st century. Due to public health measures related to Covid-19, the event was officially postponed from its original dates of April 23-25, 2020. Further information regarding rescheduling was to be provided.
