Curatorial context
The exhibition 'Cerebro(s)' offers a compelling union of culture, technology, and society dedicated to understanding the brain. It features over a hundred pieces, encompassing historical and artistic objects, contemporary artworks by artists like Andrew Carnie, Greg Dunn, Ivana Franke, Alex Guevara, Joan Fontcuberta, and Pilar Rosado, as well as scientific research results and technological innovations.
The exhibition is structured into three main blocks: 'Materia,' 'Mente,' and 'Otras mentes.' 'Materia' focuses on the brain as physical matter and the historical development of brain research, posing questions about the origin of the human mind and the necessity of a body for a mind. 'Mente' delves into the intangible aspects of the brain, such as consciousness, creativity, language, and memory, exploring themes like measuring consciousness and the nature of dreams and reality, featuring installations and interactive experiments. 'Otras mentes' expands the scope to include non-human intelligences, such as artificial intelligence, animal brains, and collective animal intelligence, questioning the exclusivity of cognitive faculties to humans and exploring the complexities of other minds.
