The Comodato Exhibition: Telefónica's Major Art Deposit with Spanish Museums

The 'Comodato' exhibition showcases 62 artworks owned by Telefónica, which were placed on long-term deposit with three major Spanish institutions: IVAM, MACBA, and MNCARS. The exhibition highlights the collaboration aimed at increasing the visibility of Telefónica's art heritage and complementing the museums' collections.

Comodato signifies a significant long-term deposit agreement where 62 artworks from Telefónica's ownership were entrusted to three prominent Spanish art institutions: IVAM, MACBA, and MNCARS. This initiative, formalized in 2002, stemmed from a mutual desire to enhance the visibility of Telefónica's corporate art collection and to enrich the public collections of these museums with works by established Spanish artists. The deposited collection includes notable pieces such as 12 works by Eduardo Chillida, 3 by Pablo Picasso, and 2 by Juan Gris at IVAM. MACBA received 13 works by Antoni Tápies and 4 by Chillida. Meanwhile, MNCARS was entrusted with 8 works by Chillida, 6 by Luis Fernández, 6 by Juan Gris, and 7 by Tápies. This strategic collaboration underscored the importance of art dissemination and the synergistic relationship between corporate collections and public museum mandates.
