Curatorial context

The exhibition 'Danube Revisited: Following in Inge Morath's Footsteps. Views on the Danube' celebrates the pioneering work of Inge Morath, the first female photographer at Magnum Agency. In the summer of 2014, eight award-winning female photographers retraced Morath's journeys along the Danube, creating new visual narratives to honor her legacy and expand upon her photographic exploration of the region. These contemporary works offer fresh interpretations of the Danube's past and present, reflecting the area's complexity and cultural richness. The exhibition, held at Espacio Fundación Telefónica, connects Morath's historical photographs with the new images produced by these modern artists. It features over 150 photographs, including 60 original prints by Inge Morath from the Fotohof Gallerie. Curated by Celina Lunsford, the exhibition fosters a dialogue between the historical significance of the Danube as a symbol of European identity and its contemporary representation through diverse artistic lenses. A documentary film about the project is also included as part of the exhibition.
