El arte en el cómic: An Exhibition Bridging Masterpieces and Illustrations in Badajoz

This exhibition explores how comic art is inspired by and pays homage to masterpieces by great painters, featuring over 200 pieces. It demonstrates the reverse influence, where comic artists reinterpret iconic artworks through their illustrations and panels.

The exhibition 'El arte en el cómic' (Art in Comics), held at the Museo Extremeño e Iberoamericano de Arte Contemporáneo (MEIAC) in Badajoz, showcases the profound connection between the ninth art and classical painting. With over 200 pieces, the exhibition highlights how comic artists draw inspiration from, and pay homage to, the works of master painters. It delves into the less-studied inverse relationship where comic iconography influences painting, and conversely, how comic artists reimagine and reference celebrated artworks. The show presents diverse interpretations, ranging from faithful reproductions of paintings to stylistic emulations and thematic reflections on contemporary reality inspired by art history. This initiative, previously shown at Espacio Fundación Telefónica in Madrid, underscores the growing relationship between art centers and comic art, a trend notably advanced by projects like those at the Louvre. Fundación Telefónica contributes by commissioning contemporary artists to create free versions of pieces from its own artistic heritage, further bridging the gap between historical art and modern illustration.

The exhibition was held at the Museo Extremeño e Iberoamericano de Arte Contemporáneo (MEIAC). Specific ticketing or admission details for this venue and exhibition are not provided on this page.
