El arte en el cómic: An Exhibition Exploring the Intersection of Art and Comics

This exhibition features over 200 pieces where around 70 comic artists reinterpret iconic works of universal painting history. It explores the relationship between art and comic, showcasing how the ninth art draws inspiration from masterpieces.

The exhibition 'El arte en el cómic' presents a fascinating dialogue between classical art and the ninth art, featuring over 200 pieces by approximately 70 comic artists. These artists offer unique interpretations of major works from the history of universal painting. The exhibition delves into the known proximity of Pop Art to comic iconography and explores the less-studied reverse path, where comic art draws inspiration from and pays homage to great painters. The displayed works demonstrate diverse approaches, from faithful reproductions to reinterpretations using original characters and stylistic emulations. Some pieces reflect on contemporary reality through the lens of iconic artworks, highlighting their enduring relevance. This exhibition is part of a growing trend of museums collaborating with the comic world to disseminate art content. Following initiatives by institutions like the Louvre and the Musée d'Orsay, Fundación Telefónica has also commissioned free versions of pieces from its artistic heritage by prestigious illustrators and comic artists. Notable contributions include Javier Olivares and Santiago García's vision of Joaquín Torres García's 'Constructivo en blanco y negro TBA,' Mamen Moreu's homage to Picasso and Magritte, and Juan Berrio's interpretation inspired by María Blanchard's cubist composition. The exhibition has previously been shown in Madrid and has since toured across Spain.

Entry is free until capacity is reached. Visitors can attend a guided tour by the curator on the opening day, November 19th, at 5:00 PM.
