Unmasking Misinformation: "Fake News. The News Factory" Exhibition at Espacio Fundación Telefónica

This exhibition examines the phenomenon of fake news throughout history and its modern-day societal impact. It explores how misinformation spreads, tools used to create it, and methods for detection and combating it, featuring historical pieces, contemporary art, and case studies.

Fake News. The Factory of Lies delves into the complex and pervasive phenomenon of misinformation across centuries. The exhibition investigates what fake news truly is, how it spreads, and the tools available to create and combat it. It traces the evolution of misinformation from antiquity to the present day, highlighting how historical advances and modern media, including the internet, social networks, and artificial intelligence, have amplified its impact. Through a collection of historical artifacts, works by contemporary artists, and real-world case studies, the exhibition aims to foster media literacy. It explains our brain's susceptibility to accepting misinformation and culminates with a 'Decalogue' offering guidance against disinformation, identified as a significant global challenge. Co-curated by journalist Mario Tascón, with collaborations from the Biblioteca Nacional de España, Universidad San Pablo-CEU, and Fundación Maldita.es, the exhibition features around 120 pieces by over ten creators, including collectives like Domestic Data Streamers and artists such as Joan Fontcuberta.

Admission to the exhibition is free of charge. The exhibition is located on the 3rd floor of the Espacio Fundación Telefónica.
