Curatorial context

Gazes that communicate is an exhibition formed as part of Telefónica’s Centenary celebrations, offering a tribute to the past hundred years of technological, cultural, and social advancements in Spain, which have shaped the company's trajectory. The exhibition showcases newly created art installations by five Spanish creators who have been invited to reinterpret Telefónica’s extensive technological and audiovisual heritage, comprising over 85,000 pieces. These installations, born from different disciplines and approaches, enhance and imbue Telefónica's collections with new meaning. The artists—La Fura dels Baus, Daniel Canogar, Cabosanroque, Nuria Giménez, Eugènia Balcells, and Isidoro Valcárcel Medina—drew inspiration from the company's significant technological heritage. They selected key objects in the history of telecommunications, including various telephone models, distributors, cables, photographs, and films, which form the basis of these installations where history and technology converge with artistic elements of light, sound, color, and image. An additional piece from the 1970s is included, connecting the telephone directly as an instrument of human communication.
